Hair Loss Clinic

Treatments:

Effective treatments for some types of hair loss are available. We may be able to reverse hair loss, or at least slow down the loss.

Medication

If your hair loss is caused by an underlying disease, treatment for that disease will be necessary. If a certain medication is causing the hair loss, your doctor may advise you to stop using it for a few months.

Medications are available to treat pattern (hereditary) baldness.

PRP Treatments

PRP treatments are like a natural pick-me-up for your hair. They involve taking a small amount of your blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma, and injecting it back into your scalp.

This plasma (PRP injections) is loaded with growth factors that work like nutrient boosters for your hair follicles. When injected into your scalp it encourages hair to grow stronger and thicker.

It’s an easy and effective way to combat hair loss without having surgery.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Generally, 3 treatments are recommended spaced out every month, followed by maintenance treatments every 3 to 6 months.

How Long Does It Take To See Results?

Initial improvements may be visible within the first 3 months, with further progress over 6 months.

Before making a diagnosis, Dr. McKibbin will perform a physical exam and ask about your diet, your hair care routine, and your medical and family history. You may also have tests, such as the following:

  • Blood test. This might help uncover medical conditions that can cause hair loss.

  • Scalp biopsy. This can help determine a cause for hair loss known as alopecia.
